So many sewing friends are staying home for Thanksgiving and for those of you who are alone for Thanksgiving, why not sew along with me on
Thanksgiving night....starting at 7:00 pm November 26th on Miss Loreen's Schoolhouse YouTube channel. We will be making this cute Candle Mat or, in my case, a mat for my snow globe so that it has a pretty place to sit. The finished size is about 9 1/2" x 9 1/2" but you can make yours any size you wish.
To make this project in the size above, you will need twelve 2" inch strips that are at least 10" inches long. Also, you will need a piece of batting that is 10" x 10" and two pieces of fabric for the back which are both 10" square. The strips have
stitching along the long edges so you will want that stitching to show. I used machine embroidery thread in two colors. Half of the strips I stitched with red thread edges and the other half of the strips I stitched with green thread edges. It is up to you what colors you pick for your fabrics and threads. Keep in mind that you really want the stitching to show so pick a couple of nice contrasting threads for that.
This project can be sewn on any sewing machine that has a zig zag stitch! If you have a serger, you could do the strip stitching with a three thread overlock stitch.
Since there are many people who do not own a serger, I will be using a regular sewing machine during the live class on Thursday evening.
I hope you have a chance to join me as I show you how to make this holiday project. Be sure to say Hi in the chat. If you can't join in, you will be able to view the video on my YouTube channel any time that is convenient for you! Be sure to give it a try!
See you Thursday night at 7:00 pm.
See you later,
loreen
