Here we go!
My pattern is called "GARDEN HARVEST"
You can click on the picture for the link to download my pattern for free while the Row Along event is going on. I will also have a link at the end of this blog. Don't forget to enter the giveaway at the end of my blog!!
Instead of designing a growing garden, I decided to showcase what we get from our gardens at the end of the growing season! With this pattern you can easily change any of the applique shapes around, add more, etc. so that you can make this block truly your own Garden Harvest. The pattern has step by step instructions along with lots of illustrations including illustrations of my applique stitching.
I started with a great sky fabric and grass fabric, both from Northcott Fabrics. The wagon and fence fabrics were from Northcott as well. I have to say a big THANK YOU to Northcott for providing me with these great fabrics!
Following the instructions, you will make your grass fabric a bit curvy to give your block a more natural look. Very easy!
Next comes the fence, sunflowers and wagon! You could have your wagon placed to the left or right!! You can easily curve your stems without cutting curved stems!!
Next, let's add some pumpkins and a crow!
And, finally, all the fruits and veggies you want!
Once you have placed all of your applique shapes, you would press everything to permanently adhere it to the back fabrics! Pretty easy so far!!
Next is the applique stitching. The stitches used will depend on two things. First, what stitches your sewing machine has and, second, what stitches you like to use! Pretty simple!! I used several different stitches in this project. The applique stitch (varies on different machines) is basically like a blanket stitch but with two or three straight stitches in between each "bite". So some of you may ask, what the heck is a "bite"! That is when the stitch will go left (or right) into the applique fabric. You will see some close ups below to give you a better idea. The pattern has quite a few pictures of the different stitches. I also used the triple stitch for the detail inside of the pumpkins to show how the pumpkin curves.
For the grass, I used one of my machines decorative stitches! I love to use decorative stitching so I don't have to be perfect straight like I would with straight top stitching!! The fence has the applique stitching.
Here is a close up of the pumpkin stitching so you can see where the triple stitch is. The outside stitching is the blanket stitch.
When it comes to smaller pieces, a simple straight stitch is best so I finished off the smaller pieces and the sunflower stems with straight stitching. Here is a close up of the sunflower stems straight stitching.
I hope all of you enjoy my Garden Harvest pattern! You can click HERE for the link to my free pattern. The pattern will remain a free download until the end of the Row Along event! Enjoy!
