It has been a busy last part of the year! How about for you? I wanted to do this quick post to end the year and to start the new year with a new quilt to stitch. This quilt is from the book "Perfect Ten Quilts" using a layer cake (10 inch squares precut) and a Perfect Ten ruler.
At first I wasn't inclined to buy another ruler. After all, I have rulers of so many shapes and sizes so why would I need another one?? I have to confess I tried the ruler out and found that it makes the cutting job so much easier. The ruler is simple without a million little lines going in every direction. It made lining up the fabric to the right line for cutting pretty darn easy. The bonus was that once I had stitched a few half square triangles (of which I think I need hundreds), the ruler had lines for cutting these half square triangles without alot of fuss. That was great!
I am teaching a class from this book starting in the middle of January and my students have the option of making one of two quilts. I believe most are going with the quilt that is X's and O's, I thought I would do a different one so everyone can see how it looks as well and it gives everyone the choice between two quilts.
For any of my students reading this blog, you can go ahead and cut some or all of your pieces if you want to get a jump on it or, if you'd rather, we'll cut the fabrics in the first class.
This is the quilt with the X's and O's.
This is the quilt that I am working on.
In order to try out the ruler, I had to make a block! Here is the first block. There are 12 blocks in total and you can see by the picture above that there are lots and lots of half square triangles!
So here's to the new year!! Happy New Year's to everyone and may 2020 be a great year for all of us!!
Keep stitching,
