It's Day Thirteen! After pulling out that Chickadee quilt and seeing all of those pieces I have to sort through, it's time for something a little different and, hopefully, a little easier! Some time ago .....Geez, how many times have I said this so far?? Anyway, last year I decided I would like to make cards. Christmas cards, of course, but also cards to use for little notes whether a "Thank You" or "Thinking of You", general kind of cards that I could add a personal note to. Everyone knows how expensive cards are and sometimes you just can't find the right card for what you want to say and send.
I happened to tune into HSN on Craft Day...holy moly! A whole different world than sewing, that's for sure but I was greatly interested. Crafter's Companion was one of the companies highlighted while I was watching and, since I didn't have any card supplies at all, I subscribed to a monthly box that contained all the cardstock and other items to make a bunch of cards. Envelopes, too! Each month would have a different theme, different techniques, papers, etc. Seemed like just what I needed to get started. hmmmm get started....well, I didn't get started right away but I did enjoy receiving a new box each month with all sorts of goodies inside!
I am choosing Box #3. It was the first box I received. The box was packaged beautifully and is thick enough to keep the supplies in without anything getting crushed. Pretty tissue paper is wrapped around all the items with a thoughtful thank you note. This box is themed " Stamp & Die".
Opening up the tissue revealed really pretty card stock in different solid colors and prints. The cardstock is in different sizes as well. There are blank cards and envelopes, too! Seems like more than enough for me to make some cards to have on hand.
Next was a set of stamps to use on the cards. Beautiful big butterflies, flowers and leaves! Also, there is a set of sentiments that are very helpful to have when making cards. When I work on the cards, I will post close ups of the stamps. It will be easier to see them after they are stamped on the card stock. I will need to have ink to stamp with and I picked some up on sale at Hobby Lobby awhile back so I think I am ok for stamping. Also, I picked up some markers to color in the stamp shapes if I want to.
This box also including some dies to cut the card stock with. I do need to have a machine that uses the dies and that was another purchase I made on "Craft Day". I will get into more of which machine I got in a post in the next few days so you'll have to stay tuned for that! The dies are the shapes of the stamps so after stamping the shape onto card stock, I have the option of cutting out the shape with the die set. I'm thinking that I could stamp a butterfly on a card and stamp another butterfly on the color card stock, cut it out and place it on top of the butterfly
on the card stock for a sort of 3D look. We'll see if that works after I get done making my April list!!
There is a lot of stuff in one box and I can't wait to try it all out. I am willing to try and make mistakes along the way. That's part of the learning process. I call mistakes "educational moments" because we always learn from them. Ok, some times we learn we don't want to do whatever it was but that's ok, too!!
Do any of you make cards? Usually, crafters do more than one type of craft but I know there are those who are committed to quilting or card making only. I'm branching out this month and giving card making a try. I think I am going to enjoy it!
Keep stitching and crafting,
loreen
