Wow! Didn't the summer go fast! It did for me! With back to school time, I needed to make some labels for Caspian's book bag, lunch box, etc. I was also looking for a way to print on ribbon for my business. I wanted to print my business name on satin ribbon to add as a tie or some sort of decoration to add to my customers' orders. Fortunately, while browsing around the internet for something else, I came across the Brother PTouch Embellish tape and ribbon maker. Yippee! Two birds with one stone. I don't get that lucky usually. I ordered one and patiently waited for its arrival.
Here it is! It is really easy to use and lots of fun. I was surprised at how light weight it is and how quiet it is when it prints. I'm not sure exactly what I was expecting for noise!! When I purchased the PTouch, I got some extra ribbons for it at the same time. It came with the chevron label tape and one of the ribbon tapes.
It comes with a good instruction manual though it is printed on a big sheet that you have to spread out to see it all. It shows all of the choices of fonts, frames, pictures, etc.
It did not come with an outlet plug. It runs off 6 "AAA" batteries and it has a place to insert an outlet plug. Looks like a standard outlet so I think I already have one that will work. I don't know yet how long the batteries will last but I think it you don't use it often, you may want to take the batteries out and just keep them with the machine and tape/ribbon cartridges.
The cartridges are super easy to take in and out. There is only one way they go in. If you remember that the little picture of the tape color and type shows through the window on the PTouch back, you will always have the cartridge in correctly.
The ribbon needs to be longer when inserting into the PTouch and the instructions do give you specific instructions for cutting the ribbon after it is printed on. It's pretty simple. Instead of using the build in cutter, you will follow the instructions and then cut with scissors so you always have a longer end for the next time you insert the cartridge.
Here's a few of the labels I ran off right away. You have choices in fonts and font sizes. I didn't get into trying the sizes because I really had other projects I have to get at!! Notice the different frames around the words? There's a bunch of those to pick from as well. Then you get to pick what little pictures you want to add on. The options are endless and I really wanted to keep playing and making labels and ribbons. I read where you can print some words then tell the machine to dispense whatever length of ribbon you want plain and finish with printing at the other end. I really want to try that out so that when I tie a bow, there will be words on each tail of the bow. Sounds like fun!
All in all, it's a great label maker and I am going to enjoy using it and finding new uses for labels and printed ribbon! I'll be sure to post pictures when I do and any instructions needed.
I did a couple of videos on my youtube channel so you can watch some label making and see how easy it is! Here's a little video I made when I opened the box.
It's just a short one. At the end of the video, there is a link to click to watch while I make some labels and ribbons.
Back to the project I really need to get working on!!
