It's my turn to reveal my 2017 Christmas Caroling Row Along pattern!! My pattern is based on the song "Up On The Rooftop". I've heard this song every Christmas season for as long as I can remember. It's a happy song and I can remember watching cartoons as a kid that went along with the music. Just gives me a smile!
I started with the fabric from Northcott from the Silent Night collection #21660-49 that is the perfect fabric for a starry night background. Northcott generously sent us fabrics to use in our patterns and let us pick the fabrics we wanted!! Thanks Northcott! There's no piecing to this row. It's all machine applique. I used Steam A Seam 2 Lite for the fusible web, traced the shapes onto it, starting with the moon. You can use up lots of scraps for the houses, doors, windows, roofs, etc because these pieces are so small and the more different colors of fabric, the better!
I fused the moon on first. The moon just brought the background fabric to life. I added the snow next but I pressed the pieces just enough to hold them so I could still move things around if I needed to as I placed the houses and trees on. The snow fabric was from Northcott's collection "Up On A Rooftop" #21704-10. Isn't that funny that one of the fabrics is called almost the same name as the song!
I then placed trees on each edge, adding houses but not fusing the pieces down. The Steam A Steam 2 Lite is sticky enough to hold everything in place while trying to place everything just so. Makes it easy! All of the shapes in my pattern are already reversed for using fusible web.
Once I had the houses and trees in place, I added the church and the pond. I didn't fuse anything down until I had everything in place. Feel free to move your houses and trees around or make more trees and houses until you like how your neighborhood looks!
I added the sleigh and reindeer next trying to have the sleigh over a roof and making sure the reindeer were "dashing" up by the moon. If I needed to move any houses, trees or the church a bit to get it all to work, it was easy to just peel the shapes off and scoot things around.
I put the words on last and just curved them to fit the area that was open in the sky. I used Northcott's fabric from Tis the Season #21740M-24 for the words and the sleigh. Once I had the bigger pieces on, I added the windows and doors. I almost forgot the chimneys! I tucked the chimneys a bit behind the roofs so I could make the chimneys whatever height I wanted without trimming those tiny pieces!
If you are new to machine applique using fusible web or just need a little encouragement, stop by my youtube channel "Miss Loreen's Schoolhouse" for a video tutorial to help you out.
Once I had everything in place, I fused all the applique shapes down, making sure I pressed and didn't "iron". Pressing means simply putting the iron up and down on the fabric so you don't move your shapes out of place. Use the instructions on whatever fusible web product you use to get the best results.
The last step was to do the machine applique stitching. I also stitched through the center horizontally and vertically on each window to make it appear to be window panes. It did make a difference!
At last, here's a picture of the stitched row! I uses a small straight stitch on the smaller pieces like the words. The rest of the stitching was using a machine applique stitch. I used Floriani machine embroidery thread to stitch all of the applique. That gave me lots of color choices.

From Seams To Be Sew who put together this event:
I am not rich and I do not ask sponsors for money, they provide prizes only. If they shipped the prize to me, you will be asked to pay for shipping. All giveaways will be shipped that are in my home within 48 hours of my having heard from you.
An invoice will be sent to you via Paypal, and shipping will take place via Paypal, so your Paypal email will be needed to send the invoice. You will receive a tracking number except for overseas shipments. All shipping will either be first class which averages out at 2.77 to 4.00 up to 13 ounces. Paypal fees are added to that amount to cover that fee. All fabric bundles from Michael Miller, Hoffman, and Moda will be shipped via Priority Mail to protect the fabric itself.
Please note, every effort is made to protect the prizes. They go into a plastic bin when I receive them, and it is covered by an air tight cover. I have a dog in my home and I have a smoker in my home, so I do everything possible to protect the prizes.
Most companies are very good about getting prizes off to customers quickly also, but some companies are overseas, so please allow all sponsors a 2-week time period before you report to me that you still haven't received your prize. When the company is overseas, it can take 6 weeks to 90 days for an item to also arrive.
Whether or not you read the above, the rules for giveaways are in place to protect everyone. I do not want to hear you didn't read them, they will be posted on my blog daily during each featured day. There is no excuse for not reading them.
Love country scenery like this! Thanks so much!
