After several late night sewing sessions, I have my Christmas and Halloweenie projects done. Not that I don't have more Christmas projects to do for presents but I have much more time to get those done. It's nice to feel that sense of accomplishment for a little while!
I had the opportunity to quilt the haunted house wallhanging and the old world Santa door panel on a long arm sewing machine. That was interesting and a bit challenging. The nicest part of it was that I didn't have to put 50,000 pins in to sandwich the back, batting and front before quilting. Just had to attach the back to the rollers, place the batting on next and pin the top to the back at the top and to a roller at the bottom. That keeps it nice and taunt while quilting. I did the quilting two nights in a row so by the time I got near the end of the second one - the haunted house - I guess I was getting a bit giddy and as I was making a loop, it looked like an "L" to me so I just continued quilting my name into the side border of the quilt!
Sorry but I didn't think to take a picture of it to put on my blog and these projects will be hanging in a fabric shop for the next few months. If they hang it low enough, I'll try to remember to see if I can take a picture that will show the quilting. I am teaching a series of classes for the haunted house wallhanging so I will definitely have the chance then. Just hope I have the memory!
The final project I had to get done was the St. Nick scene that is all machine embroidery. I put a couple of pictures up when I first started this project but once I ran into a couple of problems, I didn't get a chance to get more pictures up. Seems my bobbin ran out without letting me know...........the nerve!! Of course the sewing machine kept going along so I didn't realize part of the embroidery wasn't there. I just kept going merry along with the next few colors in happy ignorance until it happened to catch my eye that an embellishment color was there on top of fabric, not on top of thread!! Now I bet you're wondering how I could have miss it and looking back, I wonder myself. The part that was missing thread was behind the needle area so I couldn't really see it. At least that's MY story and I'm sticking to it. It was a bit stressful and tense for a little while but I finally got the missing color down and the embellishing thread on top of it and went whistling along thinking I was pretty cool! Of course that never lasts long before something else happens....that darn bobbin ran out again without telling me...but I caught it before the next color went down. I then thought I was pretty sharp and really getting the hang of it all even though it was 1:30 in the morning. Finally, reaching my last color, I relaxed and thought I was home free until I noticed I had put the wrong thread color on my sewing machine. RATS!! How my sewing machine likes to keep me humble. I think the thread was in on it too!
All's well that end's well and now back to the sewing projects I set aside to get these done.
I once thought I was a master of the domestic arts but I've found I'm a servant TO the domestic arts!
